Travis, on topic

Well flabbermygasteds, a kid without a weapon is being charged with “Assault with a Deadly Weapon”. I don't get it. Supposidly Travis has some inexplicable "superhuman" strength, which I might add is most startling news to his friends and family too. See, Travis is no Arnold Arnold Schwarzenegger, is 5′ 11″ tall and weighs about 160lbs today, maybe as much 180lbs on the day he was almost killed by Desert Hot Springs police.

Superhuman strength--I kid you not. Seriously; the seasoned police officers claim Travis has some Incredible Hulk like capabilities.

If this wasn't real life it might be funny. Like they say about the Boulder police witch-hunt for JonBenet's parents 'you can't make this stuff up'.

3/29/2009 update

"The Desert Hot Springs police department, instead of admitting brutality, have issued a warrant for Travis’ arrest based upon a fantastic story. The Jonsrud family, facing staggering medical and legal bills is asking for your help."

It all began on 2/26/2009

Maybe not so off topic and something in common with Jonbenet; all te facts just can't be captured in a series of new stories covering a tragedy. Generally tend to we rely on information coming from law enforcement agencies as objective or factual but it's not always the case as learned in JonBenet's murder investigation or cases of police brutality.

Desert Hot Springs police fired 18 rounds at unarmed 18 year old Travis Jonsrud. Fifteen shots hit a residence occupied by a mother and children. Three shots hit Travis; once in the head. Travis is a mild mannered high school senior, volunteer lifeguard with a part time job and has never had so much as a brush with the law. What makes a sad situation even worse yet, the assault on Travis was the first of two police officer-involved shootings of an unarmed subject in just four days in this community; "use of force" is obviously coming under scrutiny just as it is in in the beating of 15 year old Tamika Calhoun.

Godspeed Travis--

3/12 GREAT NEWS UPDATE: Dad took Travis home from the hospital this afternoon for the balance of the recovery process.

3/3/2009:

Teen shot by DHS police to remain in ICU
by Denise Goolsby and Mariecar Mendoza

"....The condition of an 18-year-old shot by Desert Hot Springs police last week has "taken a turn for the worse," The Desert Sun learned today.

Travis Jonsrud was expected to be released from the intensive care unit at Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs today, but now there are complications, his father said.
“I was called into the hospital last night by the doctor because he took a significant turn for the worse,” Rayce Jonsrud wrote in an e-mail. “This has been such a horrible experience.”
Travis Jonsrud, a Palm Springs High School senior, is expected to remain in ICU until further notice...."
