Encouraging Arkansas to join the 15 states that collect DNA upon a felony arrest, JonBenet's father, John Ramsey, said yesterday

"The solution to our case is not going to bring JonBenet back. It's not going to wipe out all the pain. What this bill will do, I think will prevent this from happening to other families."

"...The bill (HB 1151) that won approval in a House committee Tuesday would require police to take a DNA sample from felony suspects when they are arrested and booked into jail, instead of waiting until they're convicted.

It would initially apply to anyone arrested for murder, assault and battery, sexual battery or lewd offenses.

The American Civil Liberties Union says the measure is unconstitutional since people are innocent until proven guilty and should not be subject to DNA testing before being convicted.
