And Garnett, a Fairview High grad who is married with two children, will need solid management skills at an office where outgoing District Attorney Mary Lacy has invited criticism for her handling of the JonBenet Ramsey murder case and whose relations with the media became frosty at times.

“I have an obligation to be available to people through the media because they have the right to know what’s going on,” he said.

At the same time, Garnett plans to treat high-profile cases no differently than any other homicide that comes across his desk.

Regarding the still-unsolved murder of JonBenet, the 6-year-old beauty queen who was found dead in the basement of her Boulder home Dec. 26, 1996, Garnett said he is prepared to send the case back to the Boulder Police Department for the first time in six years..."
