unremarkable

The crazy making and grandiose ransom note left by the killer (s) of JonBenet Ramsey is certainly it's own topic within the subject of JonBenet. Often I read highly subjective opinions that the paltry amount demanded from JonBenet's parents must be an indication that the note was part of some cover-up or staging. I get brain cramp when there isn't some element of objectivity, like subjective movie line speculations literary critic Don Foster promoted or the incorrect data that the amount demanded is a bonus Mr. Ramsey recieved nearly a year prior to the murder.

My most excellent research partner (thank you) has been working on a special project and sent over some information on ransom notes. Using a slice of the data collected, looking back at ransoms demanded for children in high profile crimes, I am not so sure that amount is paltry or how meaningful the amount in JonBenet case may or may not be based on the parents net value, perceived or otherwise. The Ramsey's were certainly not in the leagues of the Lindburghs or the Weyerhousers, historical dollar valuation aside. And Bobby Greenlease was the son of a mid-west automobile dealer and Marion Parker was the daughter of a prominent Los Angeles banker:

The amounts asked for these children seems to come from thin air, or perhaps whim. I don't see a calculated wealth or potential funds availability ratio; is spontaneous maybe a better fit? Or maybe some of the culprits were not capable or educated in financial matters beyond impulse. A kings ransom in some cases and in comparison to family assets truly paltry in others. Maybe you see something different, it would be interesting to know if you do.

A couple quick, knee jerk observations came about from this initial data collection that is not done baking for it's purpose yet:

~Of the children that were kidnapped for ransom, only male victims were returned to their families alive.

~Children (either gender) that were kidnapped for a ransom and subsequently molested were never released alive, always murdered.

At this point from these aspects it is probably fair to project that JonBenet's kidnapping; ransom; molestation and murder is not really so unique or remarkable as these heinous acts go. And it could be said that the outcome was exactly as intended, historically speaking.
